SANDPOINT — No. 3 seed Post Falls was 40 minutes away from pulling a shocker in the loser-out first round of the 4A Region 1 tournament.

But No. 2 seed Sandpoint scored twice in a five-minute span in the second half to rescue a 2-1 victory at Travers Park.

Sandpoint (13-3-1) travels to No. 1 seed Moscow on Thursday for the regional title game. Post Falls finished 7-9-3.

"We held them until the second half, and we couldn't hold them," Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said.

Ashley Evans scored from 25 yards out for Post Falls in the 30th minute, and the score stood until halftime.

Tanner Welch tied it for Sandpoint in the 51st minute, and Micheal Brewer put the Bulldogs ahead to stay five minutes later.

"We just didn't respond well to their pressure," Lawson said. "We definitely had the run of play in the first half.

"The problem with them is they're so aggressive, and put so much pressure on you that if you don't respond to their pressure, they'll get you."
