BOISE — At past state tournaments, Century has been a pain in the side of Sandpoint's girls soccer team.

Not this year.

This time is was all Sandpoint, as the Bulldogs cruised to a 4-0 shutout in regulation during the 4A semifinals at Capital Soccer Complex on Friday.

"They did pack it back on us and it is a little frustrating when you have nine players back there, but it was just a matter of time before we got a goal," said Sandpoint coach Adam Tajan, who was glad this year wasn't decided by a overtime shoot-out. "Once Century stepped out and played us we just ate them up."

Last year, Century knocked Sandpoint off in the semis with a shoot-out victory, and in 2002 the Bulldogs edged Century in the championship game with a game deciding shoot-out.

"It was great to avenge last year's loss," said Sandpoint senior defender Elle Carne.

Scoring 11 goals in two shutouts at the 4A state tournament, Sandpoint advances to face league rival Moscow in the championship game today.

"We've played them some many times this season it's starting to get old," said Sandpoint senior defender Margo Lane. "But we're going to be up for this game more than any other."

This will be the fourth game between Sandpoint and Moscow this season, with Sandpoint winning the first three.

"Unless they do something crazy or off the wall, we should win," said Tajan.

"I don't think it will be a cake walk, but we do know how to play Moscow," said Sandpoint senior defender Jessica Myers.

Against Century, senior Abby Jensen knocked in a free kick late in the first half to give Sandpoint the early lead.

However, the flood gates opened in the second half after Kylie France, assisted by Angie Menghini, scored in the 52nd minute.

Junior Kaela Wohlschlager scored off and assist from France with four minutes left in the game. France then assisted Allison Gillis a couple minutes later to cement the victory.

"I thought this was a great way to pay them back and it was even better earning it with a shutout," said Sandpoint senior defender Kasey McKitrick.
