SANDPOINT — Speed was a factor in a crash that killed an 18-year-old Sandpoint man on Schweitzer Mountain Road early Friday morning, according to Idaho State Police.
Edwin R. Rickert was headed down the winding road when he entered a corner and lost control. The 1992 Pontiac four-door Rickert was driving overturned several times, struck a rock and landed on its top, state police said.
Rickert was wearing a seat belt, ISP said.
The crash happened shortly before 5 a.m. on a stretch of road known locally as Fitz's Corner, which is between the fourth and fifth switchback from the bottom.
