Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clark Fork, Idaho, with the Rev. Timothy J. O'Donovan officiating. Burial will follow at Clark Fork Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the church for family and friends to pay their respects.

Ambrose was born April 20, 1917, in Dawson, Neb., the son of John and Clara (Berg) Martinosky. He spent his childhood growing up on a farm in Nebraska. In 1939, he married Mary Edna Moore in Holton, Kan. They had one son, Gary Vincent Martinosky. They divorced in 1947.

In 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Army ground forces division stationed in California. On March 8, 1947, he married Ruth Boehm in Las Vegas, Nev. They had two children, a daughter, Theresa Ann; and a son, Ambrose Paul.

While living in San Diego, Calif., he was president of the Dachshund Club for four years. Ambrose and Ruth bred and showed dogs for many years.

Ambrose started his own business, Martinosky's Overhead Doors, which flourished for many years.

In 1974, they moved to Clark Fork, Idaho, where he worked as a carpenter for many people who became his good friends. Ambrose also was known as "Handy Andy."

Ambrose was actively involved in establishing Clark Fork Ambulance, originally known as QRU, as well as the senior citizens center. He was a member of several Clark Fork associations, including the Rod and Gun Club and the Grange. He also was a member of the volunteer fire department.

Ambrose's civic duties included two terms as city councilman for Clark Fork and two terms as mayor of Clark Fork, during which time he brought many improvements to Clark Fork. He was selected by then-Gov. Cecil Andrus to the Supreme Court Justice Selection Committee. He loved the community in which he lived, always helping those who asked as well as those who did not.

Ambrose loved the outdoors, and gardening was one of his favorite pastimes. "Never enough time for weeding," he would say. One of his favorite enjoyments was playing bingo with his dear friends.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Martinosky of Clark Fork; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa Ann and Dustin of Missoula, Mont.; son and daughter-in-law, Ambrose Paul and Theresa of Missoula; daughter-in-law, Barbara Martinosky of Chino, Calif.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and many dear friends.

Ambrose was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary; two sisters, Anna and Margaret; and four brothers, Thomas, Lawrence, John and Paul.
