Robert William "Bob" Selle, 88, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at his home in Sunnyside.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at Coffelt's Moon Chapel with Pastor Jon Pomeroy officiating.

Bob was born on Jan. 4, 1916, the son of August and Mabel (Boone) Selle on a farm near Colville, Wash., and grew up there prior to moving with the family to Sandpoint in 1923. His grandfather and father homesteaded north of Sandpoint in the Selle area and the area is still known as Selle after them.

He attended local schools and graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1934, joining the Civilian Conservation Corps shortly after graduation.

He married Florence (Hawkins) Messman on June 17, 1937, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Bob worked for the L.D. McFarland Cedar Products Co., starting in 1938 as a logging camp boss and became plant foreman at the utility pole processing and treating plant, a position he held until his retirement in 1978, after 40 years with the same company.

He was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoor sportsman. He also enjoyed growing a large garden at his home on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille at Sunnyside.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna (Messman) Barber of Seattle, Wash., and Kay (Selle) Bachman of Priest River; a son, Dale Selle of Sandpoint; a sister, Edith (Selle) Hansen of Lacey, Wash.; and 20 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a wife, Florence; a son, Jack Messman; a daughter, Helen (Messman) Call; a grandson; a sister, Nina (Selle) Choate; and brothers Clarence, Clifford, Lawrence, Harold and Don Selle.

Memorials may be made to the Bonner County Historical Society.
