SANDPOINT — The Elks Golf Course team won an unprecedented third straight team championship in the Thursday night Elks Golf League by beating the second place contender, Pabst Blue Ribbon.

The Elks team consisting of Bill Coldsnow, Tom Tharp, Jerry VanOoyen, Bob "tink" Watson and John Watson, outlasted the other 17 teams in the league to sew up this year's championship.

John Watson shot a 37 to lead the team in their last match of the season.

According to VanOoyen, this same team started out in 1974, sponsored by Jack's Lockers, next the "Butcher Shop" too over sponsorship, followed by Sommerfeld Realty and then the Elks Golf Course. In the 30 years the team has won 10 championships.

Other members, who have played on the championship team, besides the one mentioned above, were Bill Salem, Bill Reese, Jim Austin, Hal Griffin, Gary Mooney, Chuck Haynes and Dick Struntz.
