Paul L. Kemp, 77, passed away in Spokane, Wash., on Monday, Sept. 13, 2004.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, in Coffelt's Moon Chapel. Pastor Terry Cummings of Cheney, Wash. Interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Paul was born in Keota, Okla., on Jan. 29, 1927. He was raised in Russleville, Ark., where he graduated from high school in 1944. He served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II.

Following the war, he worked construction for Morrison Knudsen Construction Co. He worked on the Cabinet Gorge Dam in Sandpoint, Chief Joseph Dam in Bridgeport, Wash., Noxon Dam in Noxon, Mont., and the Wanupan Dam in Vantage, Wash.

He married Elizabeth Weisz on Nov. 1, 1952, in Thompson Falls, Mont. In 1961, he established Kemp's Texaco at the north end of the Long Bridge. He operated the service station until retiring in 1988.

He was an avid car collector and belonged to the National Corvette Owners Association. He enjoyed his orchard and building with his hands. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Liz Kemp of Sandpoint; three children, Randy (and Bonnie) Kemp of Hayden, Idaho, Jeff Kemp of Sandpoint and Candy (and Rod) MacDonald of Yelm, Wash.; six grandchildren, Melinda Kemp of Sandpoint, Christopher Kemp of Sandpoint, Andrea Hunt of Post Falls, Idaho, Ryan MacDonald of Yelm, Brooke MacDonald of Yelm and Rebecca Kemp of Hayden; his sister-in-law, Bobbie Kemp of Forestville, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
