SANDPOINT — Sweeping Newport in three straight, the Sandpoint girls volleyball team cruised to a 25-17, 25-18, 25-19 non-league victory Thursday night.

"I threw a lot at them tonight and they did great," said Sandpoint coach Tiwi Nicks. "The reserves also did a wonderful job, they came in and they picked it up. It's hard to come off the bench and know exactly what's going on all the time, but they all got right in there and played well — so I'm very proud of them."

Senior Caitlyn Free led the Bulldogs with 13 kills and four aces. Senior Kelsey James had 17 assists and three blocks. Sophomore Savanna Lester finished with 13 digs.

"We're moving forward," said Nicks. "We've put that loss with Lake City behind us and we are going to get out there and fire it up."

Seniors Amy Hunt had six assists for Newport, Meagan Stanley earned three kills, Sarah Buckley had five digs and Amiee Close finished with two blocks and an ace.

The Bulldogs (1-2, 4-3) play the Bengals in Lewiston on Saturday.
