SANDPOINT — A car chase with speeds exceeding 90 mph ended in a foot pursuit, a crash and two arrests after a deputy attempted to stop a driver for speeding in a school zone in Sagle Friday.

The passenger, Katie J. Frabel, of Cocolalla, was apprehended after a short foot chase and was booked into jail on a warrant for her arrest, felony accessory to eluding and battery on a peace officer, according to a press release from the Bonner County Sheriff's Office.

The driver, Terry Poelstra, Jr., of Coeur d'Alene, also attempted to flee on foot but was arrested by deputies without incident. He was arrested on an outstanding warrant and for felony eluding.

No one was injured during the pursuit, sheriff's officials said.

According to deputies, the car chase began around noon near Sagle Elementary School. When one deputy attempted to pull over Poelstra, who was driving a Ford Probe, he accelerated and passed another deputy who was in the area.

Poelstra headed westbound on Sagle road, then turned left, traveling south into oncoming Highway 95 traffic. He then drove into the southbound lanes, traveling in excess of 90 mph, driving on the wrong side of the road to pass drivers and forcing other vehicles off the road in the Westmond Bridge construction zone.

At one point, Poelstra passed a tractor-trailer on the right shoulder at a high rate of speed.

The pursuit ended on Blacktail Road at Butler Creek Spur Road, when Poelstra attempted to pass another vehicle on a curve and failed to negotiate the turn. After the Probe drove down a nearby embankment, Poelstra and Frabel attempted to run away but were caught and arrested.
