Building department is not needed in Bonner County

| April 11, 2005 9:00 PM

For those of you who are not aware and do not know, there is a Uniform Building Code that is used throughout the United States of America. For about $60, one can acquire or purchase this on the Internet.

As for a building department, why is it needed? Sounds as though our Bonner County commissioners want to please a few at the expense of Bonner County property owners.

When one seeks out a lending agency, such as a bank, to build, there is a contact agreement. Included in this agreement the borrower and the lender have the right for an inspector or inspection to make sure the contractor is in compliance or agreement with the Uniform Building Code. The insurance agency, too, is to be in on this — so we have the lender, the borrower, the inspector, the contractor and the insurance agency.

So what's the Bonner County Board of Commissioners doing?

Creating another bureaucratic agency at Bonner County property owners' expense.

Enough is enough.

As a Bonner County property owner, I do not want to be taxed out of my home to help a bureaucratic Bonner County payroll employee who then returns in 20 years to continue living off of the property owner.

This issue of a building department is sick, perverse and immoral and to continue to have it will lead to many properties being delinquent in property taxes. Then what?
