Frivolous lawsuits hurt CEDU's students

| April 13, 2005 9:00 PM

Literally hundreds of people were thrown into a crisis situation when the Brown Schools closed CEDU programs on March 25 with no advance notice. Parents, often thousands of miles away, were given 48 hours to get their children off the campuses on Easter weekend and hundreds of dedicated staff went without pay for weeks.

Yet Mr. Locker believes the most important question in all of this turmoil, in regard CEDU schools is: "Why did the educational consultants recommend and praise such a place? That is a more important question than why CEDU went bankrupt."

I have an answer for Mr. Locker, the educational consultants recommended and praised the CEDU programs because hundreds of parents of CEDU students gave them positive feedback. Hundreds of kids were saved by attending CEDU programs.

I have no idea how Mr. Locker was unaware he would have limited contact with his daughter when he enrolled her in a CEDU program. He ought to have investigated the way the program he chose for his child was structured before enrolling, not sue after the fact because he didn't like the way it was run.

In part because of Mr. Locker's lawsuit, CEDU schools have been closed and many needy teens will not have the life-saving opportunities previously offered at CEDU programs. Because of junk lawsuits and poor management by big business literally hundreds of people's lives were thrown into crisis and untold numbers of teens needing help today have fewer options in a world with all too few options to begin with.

There are so many critical issues involved in the CEDU closures and Mr. Locker can only ponder why a consultant would recommend CEDU.
