Sandpoint boys win first meet on their new track

SANDPOINT — Hosting their first track meet in nearly a decade, the Sandpoint boys squeaked past Lake City by one point for an Inland Empire League track and field victory Friday.
With another strong showing in the field events, the Bulldog boys were led by wins from Dustin Hoogland, Eric DeMers, Charlie Hirning, Brian Resso and Sean Lissy and Blake Mahler.
"It was fun to finally have a meet back here, we haven't had one in a long time," said Lissy.
Hoogland placed first in both the pole vault (13 feet, 9 inches) and triple jump (37-10), while Mahler won the 100- and 300-meter high hurdles, 15.94 and 41.34 seconds, respectively. DeMers leaped 19-3 1/2 for first place in the long jump, Lissy took the shot put with a throw of 52-10, Resso won the discus with a distance of 143-3 1/2, and Hirning cleared 5-10 to top the field in the high jump.
"I was happy with the shot put, but not with my discus throws," said Lissy.
The Bulldogs boys also won the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. Running in the 4x100 for Sandpoint was Eric Stoll, Chad Hecker, Mahler and DeMers. The winning 4x200 team included DeMers, Trevor Johnson, Mike Schultz and Andrew Taylor.
Lake City took first place for the girls, with a commanding 98 points. Post Falls was second with 52 and Sandpoint finished third with 27.
