Balance of power
This is in response to Steve Hatcher's letter of April 7, which suggested Harvey Pine voted for all Democratic candidates. Considering that I was known as the "campaign manager" of the independent, the letter was amusing. Although Steve was not accurate, his point is still important. Would we be better off with one party government controlled by Democrats?
The answer is no!
The purpose of both parties central committees is to gain and maintain power. At this time, the Democratic Party does not have the power to be dangerous. It is the Republicans that have turned North Idaho into a one party banana republic.
It is up to voters to maintain a balance of power. Don't expect either party to do it for us. Once the campaign starts, dedicated party members cheer their team and the goal is to win. Truth becomes a casualty of the conflict. People claim that moral values are important but truth does not appear to be a moral value.
