CEDU dedicated staff saved children's lives

| April 18, 2005 9:00 PM

Regarding the letter yesterday (April 10, 2005) about CEDU's closing being no surprise:

Mr. Locker generalizes with some isolated (alleged) incidents. We happen to live in a lawsuit-happy society, so lawsuits never surprise me in any business. Also, as awful as this sounds, these are troubled kids who don't always speak the truth. I've seen many alleged abuse cases against teachers, coaches (anyone who works with kids is a target), etc. which turn out to be false, filed out of spite or anger.

I am a parent who made the decision to enroll my son at NWA. It was not because I couldn't or wouldn't work with my child, as Mr. Locker again generalizes (I'm wondering how he describes himself since his child went to a CEDU school), but because I needed help in order to save my son's life which had spiraled out of control. I sent him there because I loved him. I was also involved as a parent, flying out to Idaho every three months for workshops. The staff at Ascent and NWA worked miracles with my son (with absolutely no abuse) and he is now alive and doing well thanks to that staff. Those staff members dedicated their lives to help these troubled kids. Why? For money? Ha. I'd laugh if any of this were funny. It was their love of kids. Now this wonderful staff has been left high and dry, but many continue to work without pay. That's dedication. I know nothing about the other schools (either does Mr. Locker, obviously) but I do know that Ascent/NWA saved my son's precious life and I will be forever grateful to those kind, loving, and caring staff members for the rest of my life.
