Moscow trips up Sandpoint

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint High School's tennis team stumbled against league rival Moscow on Tuesday.

Sandpoint Coach Jane Rockwell admits she had high hopes heading into the matches, which will have influence on seeding at districts. However, there were some bright moments.

Cody Helander and Justin Zirwes pulled out an exciting victory in their first outing as a mixed doubles pair. Rockwell said Helander and Zirwes took turns boosting each other's morale when the going got rough, which helped them outlast Moscow's Alejandra Lopez and Kyle Stokes.

"It was an awesome win," Rockwell said.

Sandpoint's Ali Miller and Emma Millar also bested their opponents in a hard-fought match.

Sandpoint, which falls to 1-2 in league play, hosts Coeur d'Alene High School on Thursday at Lakeview and Travers parks.
