Lottie Christina Boles
Lottie Christina Boles, 97, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2005, in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 28, at Coffelt's Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Interment will be at the Pack River Cemetery in Bonner County, Idaho. Pastor Darryn Hewson from Sandpoint United Methodist Church will officiate.
Lottie was born on Jan. 28, 1908, in Branson, Mo., the daughter of John and Hanna Elizabeth (Puderbaugh) Rose, who had nine children — three girls and six boys — born to them.
In 1920, the entire family moved by wagon from Missouri to Kansas. The trip took three weeks and the children walked beside the wagons during the day. After her mother died in childbirth in 1922, Lottie and her two sisters helped raise their younger brother and kept house for the entire family.
In 1927, Lottie married Albert Jason Bouse and they lived in Colville, Wash., Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; Phoenix, Ariz.; and Spokane, Wash., before eventually settling in Ponderay, Idaho. They were divorced in the early 1960s.
Lottie married Earl Boles on May 16, 1970 in Coeur d'Alene. Earl preceded her in death in 1980.
Lottie was never one to shy away from hard work and often related stories of the days when she picked cotton. Having lived through the Great Depression, she was very frugal and self-sufficient. She was an accomplished seamstress and the sound of her treadle sewing machine could be heard late at night as she made clothes for her children and grandchildren.
Lottie enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, reading and her family. She was an excellent cook and hosted many family holiday dinners, where everything was prepared from scratch. She belonged to the Ponderay Birthday Club, as well as the Kootenai Club for many years.
She was fiercely independent and lived in her own home until March, when she broke her hip. She will be remembered for her sharp wit and willingness to put others before herself.
Lottie is survived by two sons, Gareld (and Barbara) Bouse, and Dan (and Janet) Bouse, all of Ponderay; a daughter, Jonalea Tonn of Moscow, Idaho; and three brothers, Cecil Rose, Charlie Rose and Marion Rose, all of Pratt, Kan.
She was the proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Leroy Bouse.
Memorials may be made in her name to the Sandpoint Lions Club, P.O. Box 414, Sandpoint ID. 83864.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint.
