Support your local law enforcement
I am responding to Lon LaBelle's letter to the editor on April 19, 2005, where he complained about his friend getting a citation for speeding. I'm not sure what you're complaining about. Is it the fact your friend was issued a citation for violating the law as you admitted he did or is because he wasn't given special treatment because he is a retired police officer. If your friend was speeding he deserves to get a citation just like the rest of us regardless of who he is or what he did for a living. The police officer who issued him the citation was just doing the job we, the taxpayers, pay him to do. The community should be pleased to see our law enforcement officers are not showing preferential treatment when they do the job they have been entrusted to do. If Mr. LaBelle feels the police are scaring away "patrons and visitors" by enforcing the laws, then maybe those type of visitors don't need to come here. Our local law enforcement officers are dedicated professionals who leave their families every day knowing they may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect your family and they deserve the support of the community they protect.
