Let's begin petition to support bypass

| August 3, 2005 9:00 PM

The old saying: If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck and quacks like a duck …

The current president of the DSBA used to be the head of NICAN. He still goes on the radio supporting it. He and she, (Liz Sedler) did a tag team interview on KREM-TV recently after word of their lawsuit came out in which NICAN was described as a "grassroosts organization." If they're grassroots, I'm the mayor.

If NICAN and the DSBA aren't the same group, they're joined at the beak, or in this case, the "bill."

I'll take the DSBA president's word on the positions of the business owners on the bypass, but the rest of us, 2/3 are in favor and a solid 60 percent overall. There are few if any undecided.

Even the county commissioners regard NICAN as "obstructionists," even "silly." I'd add another word. They're cutting off their noses to spit our faces.

As for the Urban Renewal District, it's suddenly expanded to encompass the entire town. Cooperate welfare at its worst. I mention this as an example of the movers and shakers running rampant over the general population's financial interest.

To the writer who would like to sign a petition of support for the bypass, let's start: SICAN … "Sandpoint Idaho Community of Active Neighbors" to fight city hall and the special interests downtown. I'm sure if I put a pro-bypass petition out at work, most would sign it, why not you?
