Nurses situation at BGH simply shameful and ugly

| August 10, 2005 9:00 PM

I had my second child here at Bonner General Hospital. If I were to have another child, I'm not sure if I would give birth here, under the current administration.

There is too much turmoil and hostility in the nurse's work area. How can they do their jobs when every time they turn around, they are afraid they might be fired? The nurses are being rebuked for sticking together and supporting one another. They are being rebuked for any disagreements between themselves and their superiors. These nurses are being threatened by the Director of Nurses, Human Resources Director and the CEO of the hospital. The DNS says everything is against policy. The nurses cannot speak about their grievances with the Human Resources director because she doesn't mediate or problem solve; she talks to the nurses as if she were a cranky second grade teacher who just got a pay cut. And, the CEO, who is supposed to be above all that, clearly isn't.

These nurses deserve a supportive, encouraging and caring work environment. Is it fair for these women to be overworked, overlooked and under appreciated? How about fired, for having the courage to speak up on behalf of their patients? I don't think so.

I want a nurse that is happy and confident, and well taken care of by his/her employer.
