For community's sake, let the bypass be built

| August 20, 2005 9:00 PM

Allow the bypass to take place! If you have driven through downtown Sandpoint lately, you would know that traffic has become a problem, and this once little "walking town" has become a thoroughfare for chip trucks, cattle trucks, delivery trucks, equipment trucks, and a huge amount of speeding travelers just trying to get through town.

No, these people are not driving through to go shopping or take in Sandpoint, they are simply using the only way to get through the town from north to south or visa versa. Businesses that exist along main street would be smart to support the bypass, instead of foolishly trying for an injunction that will hurt them for years to come.

Downtown Sandpoint could re-gain its luster and beauty by simply diverting all the through traffic out of downtown and make Sandpoint "a walking town" once again. The people who want to see and take in Sandpoint will still have the opportunity to come to downtown and experience all the stores, sights and pleasures Sandpoint has to offer. For them, and for the members of the Sandpoint community, the experience of coming downtown would be much more enjoyable, especially when they are not worried about the next giant speeding truck to swing around the corner.

For the sake of the community of Sandpoint, for the people of Sandpoint, and even the businesses of Sandpoint, oppose the injunction put forth and support the bypass with all of your energy. It just might be the best thing that has ever happened to Sandpoint
