Bywall will be a monument to futility

One more letter, Mr. Fury. I am not a member of NICAN, however, I do agree with their stand on the byway.

My argument for the past 20 years has not changed. The proposed byway is only a band-aid that does not cover the entire wound. It will not take care of all the through-town truck traffic that plagues Sandpoint.

Some day, not in my lifetime, not in yours, there will have to be a westside route. The byway route will not support a four-lane or six-lane divided highway, but that is the future of Sandpoint. Where will it go? There is no other place for such infrastructure except on the west side. Then Sandpoint will be surrounded by concrete. A new freeway on the west and an old, decaying byway on the east. ITD will give it to Sandpoint and/or Bonner County to maintain and they will not have the money to maintain it so it continues to be "esthetically pleasing." In other words, it will be an eyesore.

If this is what you all want to leave as a legacy, OK. I have spoken my piece.
