Nurse's dismissal was a great disappointment

| August 29, 2005 9:00 PM

My mother-in-law is a nurse at a veteran's hospital in Sturgis, S.D. She makes wonderful dinner conversation with her tales of the hospital. I never really understood or appreciated the nursing profession until I had my first baby in Evanston, Wyo.

I had a wonderful labor and delivery nurse there who went over her 12-hour shift so I would have the same nurse through the rest of my labor and delivery. This April I had my second baby at Bonner General Hospital. There I met Patty Omodt. She was incredible. I was hoping for a drug-free birth experience and with her help and encouragement I got that experience. Patty reminded me a lot of my mother-in-law. After I saw Patty's tireless and encouraging work I had a new appreciation for my mother-in-law and for the nursing profession in general. I am not privy to the politics that led Bonner General to fire such a fine nurse but I am greatly disappointed that they did.
