Political correctness needs to be reined in

| December 12, 2005 8:00 PM

Isn't it a sad state of affairs when someone in our community can buy a Christmas tree, loaded with presents for children, at the Festival of Trees with the intention of donating it to Head Start for the benefit of the children only to be told that Head Start can't accept it because they are federally funded and Christmas trees might offend some people.

This attitude offends me! When you take Christ out of Christmas there is no Christmas. The Jews are not asked to call Hanukah anything but Hanukah. The people who celebrate Kwanzaa do not have to call it anything but Kwanzaa.

People who do not celebrate Christmas are not forced to celebrate but they sure take the day off. Why do we have to call a Christmas tree a holiday tree? When some people figure out that holiday is derived from "holy day" do we have to find another "politically correct" name? When does this end? It is time we put an end to this foolishness.

Please let your congressmen and senators know that we have had enough. This is one nation under God always was and always should be.
