COEUR D ALENE — Sandpoint's Joey Fio won his first three matches on Friday in his quest to repeat as champion at the prestigious Tri-State Invitational wrestling meet at North Idaho College. He will face Matt Lowry of Evergreen today in the semi-finals at 119 pounds.

Bulldog Sheldon Cramer lost a tight match 8-6 to Justin Williams of Pendleton in the opening round, and then bounced back to win his first consolation match at 215 pounds.

Darren Thompson beat Porter Nelson of Libby 10-5 in the first round at 130 pounds, then lost 6-3 to Sonny Tran of East valley in the second round. And Bulldog Alec Ward lost 6-4 in the quarterfinals at 112 pounds.

Bonners Ferry had two wrestlers advance to the semi-finals, a great accomplishment at this tournament considering a record 67 teams from all over the Northwest are competing.

Adam Hall won all three of his matches, no surprise considering he is one of the highest ranked wrestlers in the country, and will face Trevor Robb of University in the semi-finals at 152 pounds.

Badger David Hayes also won three matches and faces Anthony Varnell of Lewis and Clark today at 140 pounds.
