Spartan girls fall to Cusick
PRIEST RIVER — In the first-round game of the annual Priest River Christmas Tournament the Cusick Panthers didn't hand out gifts, but instead handed a loss to the Spartans, 50-37.
The Panthers came out playing some tough-D in the fourth quarter to hold the Spartans to only four points, breaking open a game that was tied at the half. They matched their defensive play offensively as well and knocked down 17 points.
"They played scrappy defense and executed offensively," said Spartan coach Jamie Pancho. "Cusick did a great job and outplayed us."
The Spartan girls (2-4, 0-0) face off with the Kettle Falls Bulldogs today. Tip-off is at 2:30 p.m.
The Spartan boys basketball team (3-1, 0-0) had a first-round bye and will play Kettle Falls today at 7:45 p.m.
