Notice of Public Hearing and Intent to Approve an Interim Measures Plan for Poles, Inc., Oldtown, Idaho

What is the purpose of this notice? On December 10, 2004, the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) proposed to approve an Interim Measures Plan (Plan) for cleanup and consolidation of contaminated soils at the Poles, Inc., facility. Based on a request from an interested party, the DEQ has extended the public comment period and scheduled a public hearing.

What Is Proposed? Poles, Inc. has submitted an Interim Measures Plan to cleanup and consolidate contaminated soils. The Plan sets forth requirements for the design, construction, operation, monitoring, and closure of the repository. The Plan is hereby proposed for approval.

Facility description: Poles, Inc. is located in Oldtown, Idaho, situated on a bench terrace on the south side of the Pend Oreille River. The site is a former pole treating facility which is currently obtaining a HWMA/RCRA Part B Permit to address Post Closure obligations. Poles, Inc. has submitted a plan for interim measures and cleanup of contamination at the site to minimize exposure to the public.

Public Hearing: DEQ announces a public hearing to be held on March 9, 2005 at 6:30 pm at the Idaho Hill Elementary School, 402 E. 3rd St. S., Oldtown, Idaho 83822. The purpose of the hearing is to allow participants to read their written comments and/or statements into the public record.

When are written comments due? Comments will be accepted until the close of the public hearing scheduled for March 9, 2005.
