Defend women's, children's rights

| February 9, 2005 8:00 PM

Anyone who reads the Daily Bee has certainly seen the anti-abortion and Life Chain Prayer Vigil ads. I, myself, believe in the right for a woman to choose. Far too often, a female is not allowed the choice of whether or not to have intercourse. As disturbing as this is, there also is the fact that there are tens of thousands of unwanted children already struggling to survive a cruel fate. Obviously, abortion is not ideal; however, an unwanted pregnancy in an unhealth environment can end in horrible abuse, neglect, abandonment, or a brutal dealth. The numbers of unloved children is appalling. We shouldn't ignore these children any longer just to inflict our religious or political beliefs on others.

So I say to all those who wish to take away the hard-won battle for women's rights; who feat education for teenagers and want to deny education and aid for poor women, instead of focusing on controllingwomen's freedom andignoring the children already born. Adopt an AIDS or drug-addicted baby, there are millions to pick from. Put all your efforts into stopping the hideous sexual exploitation of children on this planet; they desperately need your help. Stop buying products made by child labor. Feed and educate the neglected who have already been born. Picket dead-beat dads' homes and offices. Or take in some of the homeless teenagers in this town. Do something for the living, breathing, uncared for and unwanted children who are all around us.
