Post Falls Trojans overpower Bulldogs in home meet

SANDPOINT — Catching the Sandpoint Bulldogs napping, the Post Falls wrestling team walked away with a solid 50-24 Inland Empire League victory Thursday night.
The Trojans opened with four straight pins by Mike Kuber at 189 pounds, Adam Shamion (215), Kyle Nell (275) and Danny Booth (103) to take a 24-0 lead over the Bulldogs.
"We're just wrestling well at the right time," said Post Falls coach Dennis Amende. "I think we caught those guys sleeping a little bit. But I did figure going into the match that we had seven guys who, we thought, were the favorites.
"So we knew it was going to come down to who got pinned and who didn't. We started off on a roll and we were fortunate. But, I'm sure Sandpoint will be ready next week."
Sandpoint's first victory came at 112 pounds, when sophomore Alex Ward earned a major decision. However, the only two Bulldogs to score pins were sophomore Joey Fio (119) and junior Alex Watson (130).
Post Falls wrapped up the dual with pins by Bobby Kuber (135), Garrett Waldo (152), Dallan Davis (160) and Erik Prestguard (171).
"Post Falls is our worst case scenario team because of their seniority," said Sandpoint coach Mike Randles. "If there are going to be mistakes made, according to the law of averages, we are going to make more of them. And basically, that's what it came down to."
Sandpoint wraps up the regular season with a match against Lakeland in Rathdrum on Saturday.
