Clark Fork ends regular season with a win

HARRISON FLATS — Senior Clayton Hewitt scored a game-high 14 points to lead Clark Fork past Kootenai 50-38 in a North Star League game that was the season finale for both teams.

Todd Young chipped in 12 points for the Wampus Cats (5-6 NSL, 5-11).

Senior Tony Kraack scored 12 points to pace the Warriors (4-8, 4-16), who play Mullan on Tuesday.

1A boys: The District 1 tourney at Lakeland High School in Rathdrum begins tonight with a pair of loser-out games — No. 4 Wallace (8-12) vs. No. 5 Clark Fork (6-11) at 6 p.m., followed by No. 3 Mullan (8-12) vs. No. 6 Kootenai (4-16) at 7:45.

North Star League champion Lakeside (19-1) plays the Wallace-Clark Fork winner Thursday at 6 p.m., followed by No. 2 seed Post Falls Christian (14-6) vs. the Mullan-Kootenai winner at 7:45.

The championship game is scheduled for Friday at 7:45 p.m.; the second-place game is Saturday at 4 p.m.

The top two teams advance to state March 2-5 in Caldwell.

3A boys: The District 1 tournament begins tonight at North Idaho College, with No. 4 seed Timberlake (6-14) playing No. 5 St. Maries (7-13) in a loser-out game at 7.

The winner plays No. 1 seed Bonners Ferry (9-11) on Wednesday at 7:45 p.m.; after No. 2 Priest River (12-8) meets No. 3 Kellogg (11-9) at 6.

The championship game is Thursday at 7:45 p.m. at NIC; the second-place game is Saturday at 1 p.m. at Timberlake High School.

The top two teams advance to state March 3-5 at Meridian High School.

4A boys: Post Falls (14-8) plays host to Moscow (16-6) tonight at 7 at The Arena in the second-place game at the Region 1 tournament. The loser is eliminated; the winner travels to Craigmont on Saturday for a state play-in game against the No. 3 finisher from District 3.

State is March 3-5 at Albertson College in Caldwell.

Post Falls, the No. 1 seed and the Inland Empire League champions, lost the regional title game at home last Friday to Sandpoint in overtime. The Bulldogs won their first district title in 28 years, and qualified for state for the first time in 27 years.

Post Falls and Moscow, the No. 2 seed to regionals, split during league play.
