Richard William Cary, 88
Richard William Cary, 88, of Priest River, Idaho, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at his home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Priest River.
Richard was born on Nov. 19, 1916, in Sullivan Creek, Mont., the son of Ruth Trulock and Clyde Cary.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during World War II.
On Nov. 23, 1939, he married Rachel Carolina Dailey in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Richard moved to Priest River in the 1930s, where he worked as a logger. He also worked on area dams, including Fort Peck in Montana and the Albeni Falls Dam near Priest River. His logging career included horse logging and working for McDonald, Diamond, McFarland and Merritt's Lumber Mill, where he retired in 1965.
Richard loved to fish for mackinaw at Priest Lake. He also enjoyed tinkering around and building things. Richard took pride in mowing his large yard.
Besides his wife, Rachel, survivors include his daughter, Carolina (and Sam) Lachmann of Sequim, Wash.; four sons, Claude (and Camilla) Cary of Nordman, Idaho, Wayne (and Candy) Cary of Kingston, Wash., Tim (and Cheryl) Cary and Jim (and Jan) Cary, both of Priest River. Survivors also include 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a brother, George (and Jackie) Cary of Pismo Beach, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Donald Cary; five brothers, Claude, Frank, Grant, Robert and Jim; and two sisters, Blanche Morey and Gladys Leader.
Memorial contributions in his name can be made to the Priest River "meals on wheels" program.
Funeral services are under the direction of Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home of Priest River, Idaho, and Newport, Wash.
