Inland Northwest Wrestling Championships set to weigh-in

| January 6, 2005 8:00 PM

SANDPOINT — The ninth annual Inland Northwest Wrestling Championships hosted by the Bulldog wrestling program will be held today and Saturday at Sandpoint Middle School.

As the two-time defending tournament champions, the Libby Loggers will be in the hunt for the title as will Sandpoint, Clarkston and Auburn, Wash., according to Sandpoint wrestling coach Mike Randles.

"Libby was really young last year. So they're going to be really loaded up," said Randles, who's Bulldogs finished in second place in 2004. Sandpoint won the tournament in 2001 and 2002.

Other participating teams will include: Lake City, Priest River, Timberlake, Moscow, Lakeland, Kellogg, Deer Park, Colville and Bonners Ferry.

"Colville and some of these other teams like Lakeland have some tough kids," said Randles. "Hopefully by the time we get down to the finals we'll see some real solid wrestling."

After Friday's weigh-in, opening round matches will begin at 5 p.m. in the middle school gym. Saturday matches begin at 10 a.m. with the finals scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Six places will be decided with custom medals going to first through sixth. Champions receive a T-shirt and team trophies will be awarded to the top two teams. The tournament's outstanding wrestler will also receive a trophy.
