Election integrity affects everyone

| January 10, 2005 8:00 PM

Several Republicans challenged Democrats saying it was "the wrong time and the wrong place" to raise their objections. They are wrong — it was exactly the right time. The U.S. Constitution intentionally allows for such objections to be voiced, as they were recently, in order to protect the integrity of our voting process and to prevent the tainting of elections.

Those who raised objections did so based on numerous reports of irregularities and voter disenfranchisement — they concluded that they could not in good conscience certify that the election was conducted fairly and properly. Election integrity affects us all. One would think that their Republican colleagues would want to hear about and aggressively investigate the claims.
