Individuals responsible for their own actions

| January 12, 2005 8:00 PM

This letter is inspired by the article by Rep. George Eskridge in the Bee on Dec. 7, 2004.

Rep. Eskridge makes reference to the now infamous "green slander card" sent out in the mail during the last elections.

Yes, the ad came out of Boise and anyone knowing George would not believe he had anything to do with it. Also, Rep. Eskridge is a popular official who was not challenged so he would have had no motivation to have gotten involved with mudslinging.

There is no reason for him to apologize or take responsibility. The ad was developed to promote Eric Anderson.

There was so much mudslinging especially by our presidential candidates that the public was immune and no one negative ad contributed to Anderson's victory. He won because North Idaho is basically a right wing Republican area and the "R" party was successful in encouraging people to vote the team. Eric was part of that team.

The negative ad was a mistake. Obviously it was a waste of money but in addition, the Republican Party was not selective in who they mailed this to. One was sent to me. Most people know how I feel about that, and as a result, it is unlikely anyone would ever invite me to a fund-raiser for Eric. I never need to be concerned about any organization associated with Rep. Anderson ever soliciting me for a contribution.

Rep. Eskridge' s point is that politicians should consider the future consequences of their actions. In his guest opinion (Dec. 16. 2004) Bill Litsinger comments on his negative letter. Bill is an individual responsible for his own actions. I have never held Ms. Elaine Savage accountable for Bill's attack on her opponent.

I am not sure why my name appears in Bill's recent comments but yes it is true that before Bill's vicious attack letter, I did have a high opinion of him as a prominent citizen.

His actions have changed my position; but if Bill is not running for political office, why should anyone care what I think about him?
