Reynold Vanderwilt, 55

Reynold Vanderwilt, 55, of Sandpoint, Idaho, died at his home on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel, and burial will follow at Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens.

He was born June 25, 1949, in Salem, Ore., to Earl and Helen Mae (Holm) Vanderwilt.

He attended school in Redmond, Ore., and at the age of 12, moved with his family to Coeur d'Alene. He graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School in the class of 1967 and entered the U.S. Army in May 1967. He was stationed in Ft. Lewis, Wash., and in San Francisco, Calif.

Reynold also spent a year stationed in Panama, where he received jungle training. Following this training, he was sent to Vietnam, where he spent 13 months near the Cambodian border at Bearcat. He was a helicopter door gunner and crew chief and had logged 1,750 hours of flight time.

Following his discharge in April 1970, he returned to Coeur d'Alene and worked in area lumber mills. In the early 1980s, he moved to the Sandpoint area and went to work at the Ceda Pine Veneer Co., just north of Sandpoint. Reynold retired in July 2004.

He was an avid outdoorsman and greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

He is survived by his mother, Helen Vanderwilt of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Angel Vanderwilt of Spirit Lake, Idaho; his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Ronald Wigen of Spirit Lake; brothers, Monte and Kirtis Vanderwilt; sister and brothers-in-law, Marje and Vern Peterson and Vivian and Mark Worth; sister and partner, Marilyn McFarland and John Laine; grandchildren, Dominique (xxx) and Brian Vanderwilt and Alexander Wigen; and numerous nieces and nephews. Reynold was preceded in death by his father in 1983 and a son, Brian on Dec. 26, 1987.

Arrangements are under the direction of Yates Funeral Home of Coeur d'Alene.
