4 arrested after robbery, stabbing

NEWPORT — Four people have been arrested in connection with an attempted robbery outside Newport High School which sent three teens to the hospital with stab wounds. A fourth teen had injuries caused by "blunt force trauma."

According to a Newport Police Department press release, the suspects were trying to rob the teens about 8 p.m., which resulted in the victims being stabbed and another injured by blunt force trauma.

One male teen was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane for treatment. The other male teens were treated at Newport Community Hospital and released.

None of the injuries were considered life threatening, officials said.

David P. Elmer, 19, and William D. "Billy" Brogdon, 23, both of Newport, Wash., were arrested in connection with the incident. Both were charged with attempted first-degree robbery and rioting.

A 15-year-old teen from Spokane, Wash., was charged with attempted first-degree robbery and rioting and a 17-year-old teen from Coeur d'Alene was charged with attempted first-degree robbery, four counts of second-degree assault and rioting.

The incident took place about the same time as a boys basketball game between Newport and Medical Lake.
