Make voice heard on building heights

| January 17, 2005 8:00 PM

You may have only two opportunities to make your voice heard on an issue that will affect Sandpoint for many years to come. The most important one is today, Jan. 18, at 5:30 p.m. The Sandpoint Planning Commission is holding a public hearing at Sandpoint City Hall on changing the current ordinance that bans buildings over three stories within the city limits. The next one is sometime in February before the City Council — after the planning commission makes its recommendation. Input before that recommendation is made will have the most impact.

There are many recommendations possible including:

1) Upholding the current ban on buildings more than three stories anywhere in town;

(2) Allowing variances in only certain areas of town, or

(3) Opening up the entire area to buildings more than three stories.

Does it matter to you which option is chosen?

If so, you must make the time to attend this public hearing. Talking to your friends over coffee, signing petitions, or even writing letters to the paper doesn't count-only testifying will make a difference.

How much do you care about the future of your community?
