Sarah Burke at the Schweitzer Mountain Freeride Institute
SANDPOINT — Sarah Burke recognized as Powder Magazines" 2004 "Female Skier of the Year" will be one of the celebrity coaches at this year's Freeride Institute at Schweitzer Mountain Resort.
Burke, who has elevated women's skiing with progressive jumps like 900s and cab 3s, is known as the best female skier in the world, combining Global X Games wins and ESPN Action Sports Female Skier of the Year awards to earn the title. She also placed first in the women's Ski Superpipe competition held during the Global X Games and is one of the featured skiers in "YearBook", this year's Matchstick Productions film.
Schweitzer Mountain Resort's Freeride Institute is an opportunity for skiers to learn the fundamentals of mastering the terrain park, launching huge air and ripping the steeps.
Other celebrity skiers coaching at the Freeride Institute are Rory Bushfield, Josh Loubek and Luke Van Valin. All three have been featured in numerous ski movies by film makers Warren Miller, MSP Films and PoorBoyz Productions.
The philosophy at the Freeride Institute is about having fun. The goal is to instill proper techniques using highly qualified and respected coaches. All of the coaches are selected according to their teaching skills, personality and, of most of all, their ability.
Director Bob Legasa, Dan Herby, Matt Gillis and Jeff Yates will be coaching as well.
