Wampus Cats split with Tigers

CLARK FORK — Scoring a game-high 17 points and grabbing 26 rebounds, Clark Fork junior Rashell Trunnell led the Wampus Cats to a 61-40 North Star League girls basketball victory over the Mullan Tigers Tuesday.

"We played pretty well tonight," said Clark Fork coach Mark Stevens. "The girls shot close to 50 percent from the field, which I'm happy with."

The Wampus Cats jumped out with a 10-point lead in the first period and never looked back.

"Our girls were playing tough defense, which forced a bunch of silly mistakes (by Mullan)," said Stevens.

Sophomore Katlyn Valerio led the Tigers with 15 points, while seniors Anali Carrico and Jackie Smith each added six points.

"Valerio kept them in the game by hitting five 3-pointers," Stevens added.

The Wampus Cats also had a solid game from junior Tiffany Van Buren, who posted 15 points, three steals and two assists. Sophomore Rayna Allen finished with 11 points, seven steals and two assists.

Clark Fork plays Noxon today in Noxon, before traveling to face Post Falls Christian on Thursday, Jan. 27 in Post Falls.

CLARK FORK — The Mullan Tigers won their third straight game, defeating the Clark Fork Wampus Cats 36-31 in North Star League action.

The trio of Jesse James, Matt Murray and Cory Pehan all chipped in eight points to lead the Tigers in scoring and to the win on Tuesday night.

Mullan trailed at the half, but outscored the Wampus Cats 15-7 in the third quarter to earn the victory on Tuesday night.

James also had nine rebounds and four steals to lead the Tigers on the night.

Senior Clayton Hewitt and junior Kyle Ruen had nine points and 11 rebounds for Clark Fork in the loss. Junior Brian Young finished the game with five points.

Clark Fork travels to play Wallace on Friday.
