J. L. 'Tom' Bellomy, 81

J. L. "Tom" Bellomy, 81, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho on Jan. 18, 2005.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 22, in Coffelt's Moon Chapel. Pastor Paul Van Noy, Candlelight Christian Fellowship, Coeur d'Alene will officiate. Interment will be in Auburn City Cemetery, Auburn, Calif.

Friends may call at the funeral home, to play their respects, on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until service time.

Tom was born in Quitman, Texas, on May 11, 1923 and as a young boy worked picking and chopping cotton in Texas during the depression. In 1940, he moved to California and worked for an oil company in Santa Maria, Calif.

He married Marie Alene Compton on June 13, 1942 and they started their family. He started his own trucking company and, in 1954, moved his family and the trucking business to Cayucos, Calif. In 1964, he and "Old Yeller", his dump truck moved to Lake Tahoe, working on many roads and construction projects.

He retired in 1986 and moved to Sacramento, Calif. His wife, Marie, preceded him in death in 1989.

Tom married Christine Compton on Dec. 30, 1991 and they moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, in 1993. He loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his family and friends. He was very kind and generous and will be sorely missed by those who knew him.

He is survived by: his wife Christine Bellomy of Sandpoint; three children, Diana K. Cook of Sacramento, Calif., Carol A. Barry of Colfax, Calif., and David A. Bellomy of Sandpoint; four stepchildren, Myrna Anthony of Sandpoint, Beverly Thompson of Sandpoint, Carolyn Apple of Sandpoint, and Charles Compton of Atascadero, Calif.; grandchildren, Gordon Harder, Brenda Van Noy, Laura Northcutt, Daniel Harder, Marie Barry-Cruz, Max Barry, Eli Bellomy, Tom Bellomy and Ben Bellomy; sister Lorene Tibbits of California; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister and four brothers.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Coffelt Funeral Service.
