Robert Shepherd, 90
Robert L. Shepherd, 90 of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, died on Jan. 18, 2005, at Kootenai Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. reception and potluck will follow at the Hayden Chapel's Gathering Center, 373 E. Hayden Avenue in Hayden. A private burial will be at Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens.
He was born March 9, 1914 in Zealand, N.D., to Jacob and Daisy (Murphy) Shepherd.
Robert joined the U.S. Army in 1940 and served during World War II in the South Pacific. He specialized as a sharpshooter with a M1 Rifle and was awarded the Victory Medal, the American Theater Service Medal, the American Defense Service Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal.
Robert married Eunyce Bucklin in 1942.
From 1948 until 1950 they lived in Newport, Wash., moving to Sandpoint, Idaho, in 1950. They lived in Sandpoint for 26 years while Robert worked at Pack River Lumber Company. He retired in 1972 and in 1976 they moved to Post Falls, Idaho. They have lived in Coeur d'Alene since 1997.
Robert enjoyed traveling, gardening and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Eunyce at home; daughter, Gwen Jones of Princeton, Texas; daughter, Lynette Downing of Kennewick, Wash.; son, Larry Shepherd of Post Falls; daughter, Terria Lutzke of Sandpoint; daughter, Nancy Berry of Kalispell, Mont.; son Arvin Shepherd of New York, N.Y.; son, Wade Shepherd of Portland, Ore.; and eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
