Winifred McKay Martinez, 80

Winifred McKay Martinez, 80, beloved wife and mother, passed from this world on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Memorial services for Winnie will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Westmond, Idaho, under the direction of Bishop Doug Marks.

Winnie was born on April 19, 1924, to Dayle Delores Smith and Robert McKay in Newberg, N.Y.

She married Grady Martinez in Pleasant Hill, Calif., in 1965. After having many wonderful adventures, they moved from California to Idaho to be close to their children and grandchildren. They have been Careywood residents for the past 24 years.

Winnie was a very talented lady, a prolific writer of poetry, an actress, a gourmet chef and a nurse. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a knack of making you feel better.

Winnie was a wonderful wife and a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful friend to many.

Winnie is survived by her husband, Grady Martinez of Careywood, Idaho; two sisters, Elizabeth Ferris and Sharon Curtiss, both of California; a brother, Roger Kautzman from Careywood; six daughters, Glenda (Jack) Winget of Careywood, Cheryl (Richard) Munson of Bristol, Maine, Melissa (David) Marsh of Kingsman, Ariz., Maureen (David) Bangle, Norma (Ralph) Shaffer, Debra (Chuck) Harper, all of Sandpoint; two sons, Arvin (Tina) Finley from Challis, Idaho, and Jon (Barb) Finley of Richland, Wash. She leaves 33 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and three grandsons, Jeffery Marsh, Joshua Phillips and Daniel Bird.

The world has lost a truly wonderful spirit who was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
