Spartans tame cats with blow out

PRIEST RIVER — In a very lopsided Intermountain League game, the Lady Spartans defeated the Timberlake Tigers 70-23 Friday night.

The Tigers had an error ridden performance and didn't get into double-digits until a minute left in the third quarter.

Senior Calli Jo Turner led the Spartans with 12 points. Eight was also a lucky number for the Spartans with five players hitting the magic number. They included freshman Lacy Hopkins, senior Rachel Schlechte, junior Hailey Yount, freshman Jessica Willig and freshman Tabitha Clark.

Junior Alisha Puckett led the Tigers with six points, while juniors Lynsie Powers and Kelly Kincella each added five points.

Both teams were plagued with fouls, but only Timberlake ended up retiring five players before the end of the game.

The Spartans (8-9), who are ranked fifth in the state, play the Badgers in Bonners Ferry at 6 p.m. tonight.

"How we play at Bonners Ferry Saturday night will give us a better knowledge of our standing at districts," said Priest River athletic director Lou Musso.
