William C. Hughes Sr., 79

William C. Hughes Sr., 79, passed away, Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Private services have been held.

Mr. Hughes was born July 24, 1925, in Stratford, Conn., to William and Gunhild Hughes.

He grew up and attended schools in Stratford where he graduated from high school. He then entered the United States Navy during World War II. After the war he went to work as a long haul truck driver.

William married Ludmila Schovance on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1952, in Trumbull, Conn. William went to work for Southern Connecticut Gas Company as an electrician where he remained employed for the next 33 years, retiring as supervisor of instrumentation in 1989.

William and Lil spent the next few years traveling all over the world. In June 2004 William and Lil moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, to be closer to their son and his family.

William was a member of Nichols United Methodist Church in Trumbull, past master and treasurer of Corinthian Lodge No. 104 A.F. and A.M., Pyramid Shrine Club, and Azalea Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.

He volunteered much of his time driving burn victims to the Shrine Hospitals in Springfield and Boston, Mass. William enjoyed yard work, wood working, traveling, and volunteering at the church.

He is survived by his wife, Ludmila Hughes of Sandpoint; a daughter, Susan (Jack) McDaniel of Millersville, Md.; a son, Bill (Celie) Hughes Jr. of Sandpoint; three grandchildren, Jennifer Boetig, Christopher McDaniel and William Hughes; a brother, Cornelius Hughes of Florida

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Phillip and John.
