NORDMAN — A Spokane man was critically injured Saturday after crashing his motorcycle while being towed by an all-terrain vehicle on Reeder Bay Road at Priest Lake.

Idaho State Police said 32-year-old Scott E. Mauro was not wearing a helmet and struck his head on the pavement. A Northwest MedStar air ambulance flew Mauro to Spokane's Sacred Heart Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition on Monday.

The crash happened across from Grandview Lodge & Resort shortly before 6 p.m.

State Police said Gene A. Mauro, 59, was northbound on Reeder Bay Road, pulling the Yamaha motorcycle Scott Mauro was on with a tow strap attached to an ATV. The Gene Mauro was using the ATV in an attempt to start the engine.

The motorcycle lurched when the engine turned over, entangling the tow strap in the bike's front wheel, according to ISP. The motorcycle went down on its side, causing Scott Mauro to hit his head on the road.

State Police said the crash remains under investigation.
