Del Hindmarsh, 81, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2005, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2005, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sandpoint with the Rev. Dennis C. Day officiating. Burial will follow at the Westmond Cemetery with full military honors performed by the Sandpoint Military Honor Guard. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening at the Lakeview Funeral Home.

Del was born on May 29, 1924, in Provo, Utah, to Theo and Lillian Hindmarsh. He grew up in Provo, attended schools, and graduated from Provo High School.

Mr. Hindmarsh entered the United States Navy on Dec. 30, 1942. He was stationed for six weeks at Farragut Navel Station, which was his first introduction to North Idaho. After serving as an aviation mechanic in World War II, he was honorably discharged in 1946.

Del married Virginia Dowd on March 4, 1946, in Oakland, Calif. The couple soon returned to Utah where Del went to work as an aviation mechanic at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden. He worked for 35 years, during which time he purchased 20 acres in Careywood, Idaho. Upon his retirement he and Virginia moved to Careywood, where Del built, by hand, their cabin, and later their house, and all of their furniture.

Del was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sandpoint, and volunteered his time serving at the soup kitchen. He enjoyed woodworking, model trains, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Hindmarsh of Careywood, Idaho; a daughter, JoAnn (Don) Fesler of Hayden, Idaho; a son, Ron (Sandra) Hindmarsh of Provo, Utah; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Nelda Olson and Roberta Hill; and an infant son.
