Helen Glynn Ellsworth, 79

Helen Glynn Ellsworth, 79, of Sandpoint/Spokane, died Tuesday in Greenacres from complications from Alzheimer's disease with her daughter Lisa Hensley (Glynn) by her side.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 10 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Henessey-Smith Funeral Home. A service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 11, at St. Joseph's Cemetery, 17825 E. Trent.

Born to Glenn and Helen (Dean) Shaw in Myton, Utah, she graduated from Churchill County High School in Fallon, Nev. She later graduated from the University of Nevada at Reno with a bachelor's degree in education. While attending the University of Nevada at Reno, she was crowned the Mackay Day Queen. She completed her education at Gonzaga University with a master's degree in education.

Mrs. Ellsworth married her first husband of 30 years, James B. Glynn, a former Spokesman Review staff writer and director of information for Gonzaga University in 1951. Mr. Glynn preceded her in death in 1981. She later married Dr. Waverly Ellsworth Jr. in 1984, they were married just two days shy of 21 years.

Mrs. Ellsworth was an elementary teacher and later was a counselor in Spokane elementary schools until her retirement in 1988. They later made their retirement home in Sandpoint.

She loved handcrafts, foreign travel, cooking and visiting her granddaughters.

She is survived by her husband, Waverly; brother Morgan Shaw (Rhoda); five children from her first marriage, two daughters, Laura Kabel (Bruce) and Lisa Hensley (Mark); three sons, Richard Glynn (Victoria), Brian Glynn (Brenda) and Kevin Glynn (Laurie); and five children from her marriage to Waverly, Ron, Nancy and Brian Ellsworth, Debbie Brown (Gary) and Becky Akpan (Sylvester); and 15 grandchildren, Kelsey and Christine Glynn, Joel and Jason Glynn, David Bottinelli, Jason and Ariana Kabel, Sean and Miles Glynn, Nick Hensley, Ashleigh and Kristen Brown, Stephen Ellsworth, Cassie and Brian Akpan and Erica Ellsworth.
