Ruth Josephine Carter, 88, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2005, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

A Vigil Service with Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2005, at Coffelt's Moon Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2005, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sandpoint with the Rev. Dennis C. Day officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ruth was born on Oct. 18, 1916, in Enderlin, N.D., the daughter of John and Karen (Nicholaisen) Brodkord. She moved to Kootenai, Idaho, with her family in 1918 and graduated from Kootenai Grade School in 1930 and from Sandpoint High School in 1934.

She married Ronald "Pat" Carter on Nov. 17, 1940, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

She had baby-sat for numerous people and worked in the hot lunch program for the Bonner County School District.

Ruth moved to Sandpoint in 1972. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting as well as her flowers. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sandpoint.

Ruth is survived by her four sons, Patrick "Pat" Carter of Phoenix, Ariz., William "Bill" Carter of Elgin, Ind., Thomas "Tom" Carter of Coeur d'Alene and Kenneth "Ken" Carter of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; four daughters, Elizabeth "Betty" Wahrer of Tucson, Ariz., Barbara Kenney of Valley, Wash., Della Kenworthy of Sandpoint, Idaho, and Ruth Sutton of Bonners Ferry; 23 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons; two sisters, Maryetta Mayer of Spokane, Wash., and Hazen Hamann of Kootenai; numerous nieces and nephews; and special family friends of Ruth, Bob and Carol Camp and family, and Ken and Sandy Babin and family.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pat; two sisters, Katherine Litchfield and Eleanor Carter.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint.
