Prairie, Sandpoint split doubleheader

| July 20, 2005 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT — Cody Brubaker, Kelly Hall and Jayson McMillen drove in two runs each as the Prairie Patriots defeated the Sandpoint Riley Creek Lakers 8-4 in the first game of a North Idaho League doubleheader Tuesday at Memorial Field.

Clay Montgomery pitched a three-hitter and struck out seven in the second game as Sandpoint won 12-2 in five innings.

Brubaker hit a two-run single in the fourth inning as Prairie (4-10 NIL, 13-21) built an 8-1 lead. Hall had a pair of RBI singles for the Pats.

Ricky Klontz hit a two-run single in the fifth inning for Sandpoint.

In the second game, Steve Wold of Sandpoint hit a disputed two-run homer to left field in the third inning to tie the game at 2. Prairie contended the ball bounced over the temporary fence for a ground rule double; the umpires ruled otherwise.

Later in the inning, an apparent catch by Prairie right fielder Jeremy Roth was ruled a drop, and another run eventually scored.

Klontz hit a two-run double in the fifth inning, and scored on a single by Montgomery to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Brubaker hit a two-run homer in the first for Prairie. Montgomery gave up one hit over the final four innings — a double by Brubaker in the third.

Prairie travels to Lewis-Clark on Friday for a league doubleheader.
