E.W. Quirin

E.W. Quirin passed away at his home near Hope, Idaho, resulting from a massive heart attack, on July 25, 2005. He and his wife, Violet, lived in the Sandpoint area for 38 years.

Private family services have been held.

The son of Louis and Elda Quirin, E.W. was born in Schaller, Iowa, on Feb. 16, 1928. For years, he farmed in Iowa and later drove his own freight truck. As a young man, he enjoyed flying and became a pilot, flying passengers throughout the upper Midwest.

On Sept. 1, 1967, he married Violet Sorge and moved to North Idaho. E.W. was an excellent mechanic and worked for various firms in the Sandpoint area, including Dockens Tractor, a John Deere dealership; Ruen Farms of Clark Fork; the Louisiana Pacific mill in Sandpoint and Ruen Drilling of Clark Fork. He also enjoyed working with Fred Kennedy, rebuilding a diesel tugboat. Along the way, he found many good friends and co-workers.

E.W. Quirin is survived by his wife, Violet, of Hope; a son, Scott, and a daughter, Sue, both of Denver, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Cathie Schmiedeke and Marcy Speiser of Missoula, Mont.; a brother, Neil Quirin of Alta, Iowa; a sister, Sheryl Marsh of Oceanside, Calif.; two grandchildren, Aree and Desiree Standly of Missoula; and two great-grandchildren, Ava and Zeno Spieser of Missoula.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dean.
