Lyons lifts Coeur d'Alene past Sandpoint

COEUR d'ALENE — Max Lyons singled down the left field line with two out in the eighth inning, scoring Kody Winter from second base and giving the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen a 6-5 inning over the Sandpoint Riley Creek Lakers in North Idaho League play Tuesday night at McEuen Field.

Winter led off the eighth with a single for Coeur d'Alene (2-0 NIL, 4-0), and was sacrificed to second by K.C. McDonald. After a walk and a strikeout, Lyons delivered the game-winning hit.

Quinn Walkington of Sandpoint (2-1, 2-1) hit the first pitch of the game over the center field fence. Lyons answered with a two-run shot in the bottom of the first, after Cory Kreighbaum led off with a single.

Sandpoint tied it at 5 in the top of the seventh by drawing four walks. Clay Montgomery walked with the bases loaded to force in Walkington.

Kreighbaum's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth scored McDonald from second to give the Lums a 5-4 lead.

Dan Lau and Travis Georgius had RBI singles to put Coeur d'Alene up 4-2 in the third.

Jake Howell hit a sacrifice fly and Montgomery added a run-scoring single as Sandpoint tied it at 4 in the fifth.

"Sandpoint will scrap with you," Coeur d'Alene coach Jim Straw said. "They're tough; they'll push you."

Coeur d'Alene plays at Prairie today at 5 at Post Falls High School.
